Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas for Grandparents

Handmade Christmas gifts are often the most treasured. Christmas gift lists can be long and expensive, and there are some folks on your list that you don’t want to forget at Christmastime. Grandparents are probably among them. But if your budget is tight, or if you want to give grandma and grandpa something homemade and from the heart, try making nice handmade holiday gifts that they will love.

Get a plain 5-gallon bucket the kind made from heavy plastic. Drill several holes in the bottom of it. Have your child decorate it with permanent makers. Be sure to have your child sign her artwork. This is a very useful tool for gardeners. It can be used for collecting weeds, and garden and lawn debris, and for transporting plants and soil. The holes in the bottom allow water to drain out if the bucket gets left out in the rain.

Use an empty soup or vegetable can to create a good grandparent gift. Clean the inside of the can and remove the label from the outside. Use acrylic craft paint to paint a design on the outside of the can. For Christmas, you could give the can a light blue background, and then paint white snowflakes or a snowman on it. You can even use glitter to highlight your artwork. Fill the can with tissue paper and homemade goodies, candy, or something useful like pens. A larger can such as a coffee can will be big enough to accommodate a small loaf of homemade holiday bread.

Use your imagination when decorating and filling the can, and tailor fit the artwork and the filling to what grandma or grandpa will like. When the can’s contents are gone, it can be used for other storage purposes.
